The storyline from the movie shows this. Chaplin’s tramp falls in adore with Merna, who returns his affection. Then, a tightrope walker named Rex (played by Henry Bergman) will come on to the scene and Merna quickly falls in really like with him. Why? Simply because his act is daring and risky whilst Chaplin’s clown act has a lot less prestige.
